Top Wedding Songs in 2014

Can't figure out the perfect song for your first dance? Don't worry! Dance FX Studios in Mesa, Arizona has put together a list of the top 10 wedding songs this 2014 season. With everything from country dance music to classic Frank Sinatra, here are the songs that all of our brides and grooms are wanting this year, accompanied by what kind of dance you can do to that song!

*Note: You'll see the dance Nite Club 2 Step quite a bit... Most first dances tend to be slow, so the beautifully versatile slow dance, Nite Club, is often the best choice. Plenty of our couples go with less traditional songs and dances, though, so don't be afraid of an upbeat first dance!

1. All of Me - John Legend

dance: Nite Club 2 Step
Everyone knows this song by now. Beautiful and simple, it really captures the true essence of a relationship. Consider having it slowed down a little, though, to make it easier to dance to.

2. I Won't Give Up - Jason Mraz

dance: Nite Club 2 Step or Waltz

The message of this song is very honest. It definitely speaks to the level of commitment you both are promising. (I don't recommend attempting a waltz unless you both have previous dance experience. It's quick!).

3. Everything - Michael Buble

dance: Nite Club 2 Step

This one has been around for a while, but the song remains the perfect wedding song!

4. I Will Never Let You Down - Rita Ora

dance: Nite Club 2 Step or Salsa

This new song is much perkier than most on this list. This fun and flirty song shifts back and forth between moods, so you can play with a quick Nite Club or a mellow Salsa dance. Experiment, your guests will love it!

5. Marry Me - Train

dance: Nite Club 2 Step

The title says it all. "Marry Me" is a wedding staple for a reason.

6. At Last - Etta James

dance: Nite Club 2 Step

Lots of couples like to go old school with this beautiful song. Etta really understands the relief that can come from finally finding true love.

7. Then - Brad Paisley

dance: Nite Club 2 Step

For the Country fans out there, Brad Paisley's "Then" is the perfect first dance.

8. Lucky - Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat

dance: Nite Club 2 Step

This light-hearted song is great for couples who have really found their best friend in their partner. Not too slow, not too fast, it's perfect for a mellow slow dance.

9. The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra

dance: Foxtrot

Frank really knew how to sing, didn't he? For couples who want a more classic feel, this jazzy tune is the perfect addition to their big day.

10. Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show

dance: Country Two Step (Arizona Two Step) or Country Swing

Another one for the Country wedding that doesn't want a traditional slow song. "Wagon Wheel" is lovely for a relaxed Two Step or Country Swing.

Meet New Friends in Arizona Through Dance!

"It’s been awhile since I’ve been in the dating scene." "How do I go about getting out there?" "I don’t think I remember how it works anymore." As a ballroom dance instructor, these are some questions that I hear all the time from my single students.

Whether you’re newly single, dating for the first time or even trying to relate to all the changes in the dating scene, it can be scary trying to get out there and figure it out all on your own. Here are some helpful pointers to get you started on your journey in this crazy dating world.

1.       Pearly Whites: If there’s one thing you absolutely need to do, it's smile. Smiling projects confidence, shows that you’re friendly and approachable and even makes you appear more attractive to the opposite sex. It’s not an opinion, just solid science that has been confirmed with study after study. Smile with your whole face — not just your mouth. Go out tonight and see if you don’t have a far better time talking because of it. (Plus: You're cuter when you're happy, and self-confidence is sexy.)

2.       What If: Asking for a first date can be intimidating, but it's not the end of the world if the answer is no. To better the chances of getting a yes when you ask for a first date, stay flexible, keep things light. Think KISS (Keep It Simple, Sweetie). All you want to do here is send a clear, gentle, but important message: I'd like to spend some time getting to know you better. Are you interested?

3.       Cybernet: These days, you're almost as likely to meet online rather than in person. Start building up your web profile but be safe about it. A blank computer screen is seductive. Beware the temptation to share more than you should online. Remember anyone you meet online is a stranger until you meet face to face and start the process of really getting to know each other. So, the first time you meet each other, make it a public place, and tell someone where you'll be.

4.       Not the Only Fish in the Sea: When out with friends as you meet someone that you’re interested in, you shouldn’t be afraid to walk around the room and meet other people too. Check back in with your friends and grab a drink and then come back to your interest. You don’t need a reason to do this, it’s just a good thing to do. It’s a part of acting like you value yourself enough to give yourself a chance to meet a lot of potential dates.

5.       Learn a Healthy Hobby:  Take up hiking, golfing, join a gym or, my best suggestion: learn how to social ballroom dance. Here in Arizona there are a lot of Country bars and Latin clubs that you can go to meet new friends. What a great way to meet someone and talk for a minute then strut your stuff on the dance floor by doing some Country Two Step, Swing or even Salsa dancing. You can really sweep a woman off of her feet if you feel sure enough to take her for a spin on the dance floor!  She will definitely appreciate you showing her that you can have fun and that you know how to move.

If you don’t know how to dance, there is a great way to get started here at Dance FX Studios in Mesa, AZ. Come in for a 50 minute introductory dance lesson with us and let us show you how to move effortlessly on the dance floor. We have a variety of dances, from Latin styles to Country, Swing, social Ballroom and even Argentine Tango, that can fit any style of life. Plus, dancing is an investment and a hobby you can take with you through your entire dating process.

Remember it’s a crazy dating world out there so don’t be afraid to be you. Smile, take risks, laugh a lot, don’t be afraid to walk away and learn to dance to enhance what you’ve already got.
