Are Your Ready For Some Passionate Dancing?

Previously, we discussed the benefits of learning to social dance and focused specifically on Latin dancing. Latin dancing is fiery and exhilarating, so wouldn’t you love to be able to get out on the dance floor and sizzle? Think about how impressive you will look and how great you’ll feel being able to grab a partner and get out there dancing!

At Dance FX Studios, in Mesa, AZ, close to Phoenix and Scottsdale,we can help you to achieve that goal with private dance lessons. Private lessons are the most effective way to turn inexperienced dancers into skillful and self-assured leaders and followers. The lessons will be focused on just you or just you and your partner, since each lesson is based on your learning capabilities and on the specific dances you choose to learn. Private dance lessons are available Monday-Friday, from 12-8 pm and Saturdays, from 11 am-4 pm, so there is a lot of flexibility scheduling your lessons.

Today, we’re going to cover a couple more styles of Latin dances- Salsa and Cha-cha. These social dances are very popular all over the world and if you like to travel you will find there are opportunities to dance in almost every major city around the world.  Even if you visit a country where you don't speak the language, these dances can serve as a universal language that bridges any communication gap.

OK, so let’s begin with Salsa dance lessons, available at Dance FX Studios, in the Phoenix, AZ area. What makes Salsa dancing so cool that it’s hot? Aside from the chance to connect in an intimate and seductive way with others on the dance floor, Salsa dancing opens you up to explore a new “sassy” you, allowing growing room for self-expression and a freedom.  How many other activities can do that for you?

Surprisingly, Salsa dancing will help with your balance and coordination, due to the constant shifting of weight and other movements associated with Salsa dancing. Previously rigid or even awkward movements will be more fluid and flow gracefully with the help of the quick changes in body positioning done in Salsa dancing. So, if you feel a little uneasy on the dance floor, learning this particular dance will help to get you on the track to being a more graceful dancer.

Salsa dancing can help make you feel more confident about yourself and with your self-expression. The sensuality that comes from the energetic and even sexy movements that are associated with Salsa dancing will become apparent in your performance as well. It will bring out the warmth and passion in you, so once you get out on the dance floor, you’ll be amazed at how this really affects your dancing. So, why not put some pep in your step with Salsa dance lessons!

The Cha-cha is an energetic and sexy dance that shares a lot of similarities with Salsa and can be danced to a variety of different kinds of music. The Cha-cha prevails as a popular social dance due to its appealing mix of breezy movements and smoldering sensuality. It’s a flirtatious dance that encourages you and your partner to only have eyes for each other. In this fast paced world where everyone seems too busy for anything, how wonderful to be able to slow it down and enjoy spending some intimate time together.

What sets the Cha-cha apart from other dances is the Cuban hip motion. This movement involves alternating the hips up and down by bending one leg and straightening the other. It may not sound very smooth, but when you see or experience it, the Cha-cha is something that is quite alluring and sexy!

The Cha-cha is a dance that has never gone out of style. It’s always a favorite at weddings due to its versatility with various genres of music. In fact, you can Cha-cha to Country dance music, oldies, and Hip Hop, as well as other Latin styles. So, even if Latin music isn’t your favorite, there is no reason not to Cha-cha! This dance is very easy to learn, and, once you learn the basic pattern, can be done in either a crowded or spacious room.

Well, isn’t this enough motivation to get you up on your feet and get dancing? Excellent! Please give us a call, 480.968.6177, to get started with your private Latin dance lessons.  Dance FX studios also offers group dance classes and is right near the 101 and most East Valley cities, such as Scottsdale, Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert, and Tempe, at 1859 W. Dancing is so much fun and so beneficial for everyone, you really owe it to yourself to learn a skill that you will use throughout your life, for any event.

Now, you may be curious about the different types of Latin dances. At Dance FX Studios, Latin dancing includes dances such as the Salsa, Bachata, Bolero, Merengue, and Cha-cha. Although the signature characteristic style to Latin dancing includes hip action, not all dances look the same. The Bachata, for example, is much slower than the Salsa, Merengue or Cha-cha. What’s so awesome about Latin dancing is that all of the fundamentals are interchangeable to allow you to apply the moves from your Salsa dancing into the Bachata or Merengue and vice-versa. Isn’t that helpful!

Feeling a little intimidated by Latin dances? Then you may want to start with the Merengue, since it is often referred to as the “walking dance” because there are just two basic movements- stepping with your left foot and then right foot, or the other way around, depending on if you are the leader or follower- it is that simple! This makes it an ideal way for beginners to ease their way into Latin dancing. The Merengue can even make it easier to learn those complicated moves done in Salsa or Cha-cha dancing because you are basically walking through them. So, if you can walk, you can Merengue!

Now let’s talk about the Bachata. This dance is known for being a warm and passionate dance and originally, it was danced to express the feelings that someone has for another person. With intimate and melodious movements within the dance steps, many people fall in love with it. Just think about how romantic it will be dancing with your sweetie! This dance has many different forms, including traditional, moderna, urban, tango, as well as the original dominica bachata. Each of these styles includes the same basics steps but with different techniques integrated into the dance, this really gives Bachata its unique flair!

The Bolero is the slowest of all the Latin ballroom dances and has been described as the "dance of love", because of its slow and wistful tempo, as well as, its exquisite melodies. It combines some of the best parts of other popular Latin dance styles, while adding its own unique flair and mystery. Bolero dancing is often accompanied with bongos, castanets or a guitar and can actually be performed solo or as a couples dance. Doesn’t this inspire you to grab a partner and get out there and dance?

Getting Ready For Your Big Day

Are you or someone you know getting married? How exciting! While you begin making all the arrangements, have you thought about your first dance? It’s definitely worth planning ahead, so you’ll kick off the reception with a memorable first dance that will amaze all of your guests!

At DanceFX Studios, we have choreographed a multitude of first dances. We suggest preparing for your first dance way ahead of time, so when the big day comes, the two of you will move effortlessly on the dance floor for the first dance and throughout the reception. To get you started, we recommend that you set up a wedding consultation, in order to provide you with a dance that matches your preferences and personalities. This one-hour appointment is only $20 and will include a mini dance lesson, as well as, the opportunity for us to obtain as much pertinent information as necessary to enable us to customize your exceptional first dance!

Being prepared for your wedding dance consultation will really help the instructor to understand your vision for your special day and will save you both time and money. You may be wondering- how in the heck are we supposed to get ready for our consultation? Well, we’re going to help you out with some useful tips.

Let’s start with the music, after all, you can’t have a first dance without music! At Dance FX Studios, we advise you to have at least 3 songs to work with or at least an idea of the style of music you prefer. You and your fiance will need to get some ideas together before you come in for the wedding consultation.

Do you both like a classic wedding dance song, like something from Etta James or Harry Connick, Jr? Great, then the foxtrot is just right for this type of music. Maybe you’re thinking about something hot and spicy, such as salsa or bachatta. Love Big Band music? Then, swing dancing would be perfect for you! Here in Arizona, Country music is very popular, so learning the two-step might be a good choice for you and your soon-to-be spouse. Now, if you want something sensuous and passionate, then you should definitely try the Argentine tango. Can you imagine how blown away your loved ones will be seeing you doing this hot-blooded dance?

If you’re just not sure what you what you want, bring 3 of your favorite songs so that your wedding consultant has an idea of what both of you like and can offer some suggestions based on your preferences.  Finding you just can’t agree on any song choices? No worries, both of you can bring in your own top 3 selections and we can get creative coming up with something that will make both of you happy.

Now, believe it or not, the bride and groom’s clothes are as important as the dance. For the grooms, you only need to be concerned with your shoes and jacket. To allow you to effortlessly move across the dance floor, your best bet is to wear leather bottomed shoes. This way, you don’t have to worry that your smooth moves won’t be hampered by shoes that are not moving as easily across the floor as you. After all, you don’t want all your efforts learning to dance to be sabotaged by shoes! As for your jacket, it’s best if you don’t wear it during the first dance, as it may inhibit your moves. Now, if you’d like you can actually make this part of the dance, where either you dramactically take it off and toss it into the crowd or have your bride seductively remove it. What an impressive way to start off your first dance!

For the brides, shoes are also important. You don’t want heels that are so high that you topple over when your new husband twirls you around. And forget about platforms- they are just too heavy for dancing and can hinder your awesome performance! Now your wedding dress- well what can we say. It’s your day and you select anything that makes you even more beautiful and happy. However, do be aware that princess gowns can get in the way, so plan accordingly. No matter what you decide to wear, this is all about you, enjoying your day and being able to make your first dance a cherished memory for everyone.

OK, now we’re going to talk about floor plans. You’re probably thinking- hey, we’re taking dance lessons, not interior decorating! Well, you will need to be aware of your floor space, to make sure you have the room you need to really strut your stuff for that all important first dance, so please bring the floor plan with you.

To ensure that there will be enough room, make sure to have the dimensions of the dance floor when you come in for your consultation. Your instructor will need this to provide you with the best estimation of what is realistic for your dancing space. For example, if you select a slower, elegant dance then you’ll be fine with anything above a ten by ten area.  If you’re really going to be rocking out, then you’ll need at least a twenty by twenty dance floor. No matter which type of dancing you choose, we want to be sure that there is plenty of room to kick up your heels and really show off your incredible dancing skills!

OK, to get started, Dance FX Studios is available for wedding consultations Monday-Friday, from 12-8 and Saturdays, from 11-4. We are located at 1859 W Guadalupe Rd, in Mesa, AZ, close to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, Tempe, and Gilbert, just off the 101. Please give us a call at 480.968.6177, so we can get you scheduled and on your way to becoming amazing dancers!
