Healing Through Dancing

These days, most people tend to lead their lives under constant pressure and tension from work, family, friends and the rest of the world. We get so wrapped up with deadlines, having so much to do and trying to do it all, that we start to burn out and lose focus. On top of this, many have personal issues to deal with, such as loss of work, self-esteem, loss of a loved one, gaining weight, etc., which can ultimately lead to depression. It’s time to take action and find something that is going to positively affect you in a variety of ways.

You know you need to take care of yourself, but are not sure what to do to help to get back to a healthy, more balanced life. If you’re feeling tense or stressed out, you might want to grab a partner, turn up the music, and tango! Ballroom, Latin, Country or Swing dancing is one of the greatest ways which can really brighten one’s stressful life. Studies have shown that dancing can help to alleviate stress and to lighten your load.

Many times when someone decides to start any form of exercise they rarely consider the fun factor that it can involve. This is something really important to consider when making the decision to take hold of your life and make changes that are beneficial in various ways. Think about it- if you enjoy what you’re doing, then the results will be so much better and much more effective. So whether you’d like to learn swing dancing or want to spice up your life with salsa dance lessons, why not give dancing a try? We tend to be so busy taking care of everyone else that we neglect to treat ourselves and dancing can be just the way to give back to YOU.

Social dancing is therapeutic to your health more than just physically. It also heals you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Did you know that dancing elevates our mood by raising our endorphin levels? This is what allows us to heal from stress and depression, two of our immune system’s biggest enemies. It also helps to establish our self-confidence and self-discipline, as well as improving the harmony between the mind and body, giving us a sense of well-being.

Maybe you’ve just lost a loved one and now you are feeling lost. You’re overwhelmed with grief and are finding it hard to do anything. Dancing can really help to lift your spirits, according to a study that tested the effects of dancing on those with depression. Whether it’s Country dancing or the Argentine tango, the abundant flow of mood-improving chemicals that dancing releases means that kicking up your heels can really help to rejuvenate you. Just one dance session can eliminate depression, even more so than vigorous exercise or listening to upbeat music. Dancing leads to a decrease in stress and creates stronger social bonds, key factors in your overall health. How awesome that something so beneficial is also so enjoyable.

Remember when you used to be so confident and your self-esteem was through the roof? But now, due to issues at work- you didn’t get that raise you expected, your hours have been cut, you’re no longer the “go to” person, now you’ve lost confidence in your abilities. Maybe your relationship or marriage has ended and you’re convinced that it’s all your fault- you feel you’re no longer desirable, you didn’t do enough, or you feel you’re not a spring chicken anymore and can’t compete with the younger generation. Now, there goes your self-esteem and because of this, you are finding it hard to keep going- you’ve lost your incentive to get up in the morning, socialize, try new things. No worries, there is hope! Got the blues? It just might be the perfect time to get out there and dance!

Never danced before? That’s OK! If you live in the East Valley of Phoenix, try dance lessons at Dance FX Studios in Mesa, AZ- you’ll be amazed at how healing this can be for anyone. How about trying out an introductory private dance lesson or joining a group dance class? With private lessons, you will be able to have one-on-one lessons with an instructor who will tailor your lessons just for you, at your rate of learning and with the types of dance (s) you prefer.

Group dance classes also provide many opportunities to meet other people. Studies have shown that dancing can contribute to high self-esteem and a positive outlook. It can increase self-confidence and build social skills. Dancing is recreational and entertaining. It creates a social life providing an opportunity to make new friends, to help you to grow, and makes you want to laugh. Isn’t that a great incentive to get out on the dance floor?
Little by little you will find yourself connecting with someone again, laughing, having fun, and before you know it, you start to feel like your old self again, or maybe a totally new and improved you!

We have been proud to witness first-hand the benefits that taking dance lessons has on our students over the past 12 years. Those with low self-esteem and lack of confidence have bloomed into self-assured and outgoing individuals. Some were out of shape or overweight and we’ve witnessed them getting slimmer, losing anywhere from 10-40 pounds and now feeling so stoked! Not to mention several who were sad and grief stricken, who are now happy, active, and involved in life again. Words just can’t express how rewarding it is to see so many people go through this metamorphosis.

OK, now you’re ready to get going, but not sure where to go to get started. Dance FX Studios is exactly what you need! We created the first social dance studio for adults and offer customized programs and progressive group classes. We teach dancing that you will actually use in the real world and are all about having a great time while you learn, so our techniques are a little out of the ordinary, yet effective.

Dance FX Studios is located at 1859 W Guadalupe Rd, in Mesa, AZ. We’re just minutes away from Scottsdale, Phoenix, Gilbert, Tempe, and Chandler. Please give us a call at 480.968.6177 for more information and to get started on your journey to dancing.
